I’ve been to a few weddings since Woods has been born, and it’s the mother-son dance that gets me. I can get through the bride walking down the aisle. I can get through the Daddy kissing and giving her away, as tear jerking as that scenario can be. I just can’t get through that mother-son dance. I mean full on tears (and I haven’t even known the bride and groom that well…in law knowings….awkward). There’s just something about the way that groom holds his Mama and how he glides her through the room. How he gently holds her. There’s something about the look in that Mama’s eyes….and I JUST LOOSE IT. I just can’t even. I can’t imagine my sweet Woods loving some other girl as much or more than me, his Mama. I know in due time, he’ll grow. And I’ll slowly see that independence he is gaining, what I’m aiming for as a parent, afterall. And, well, it’ll show it’s good fruit too. In due time. In due time. And I won’t be so sad…I hope. I hope that as we grow together, as we experience our firsts together, that I deeply soak it all in. That I’m focused. I’m focused on loving him intensely and holding him ever so tightly, yet at the same time knowing just how much, when, and how far to let him go. I suspect being a mom will be a lot of this. Hugging and holding and yet letting go. Because I know as hard as it can be, letting go can be just as good as the holding on. It’s the look on that mama’s face. We’ve all seen it. It’s the joy, I see. That joy of her letting go once more. Her immense joy for her boy. And oh man (cue tears), that’s where she gets me. That’s where she gets me, every single time. I only pray that one day I can have the same look on my face. – Jillane
